Gonzaga advanced to the Round of 32 with a win over the Georgia State Panthers, and in the same arena on the same day the Gaels of Saint Mary’s blew the doors off Big 10 opponent Iowa. It was a great day for the WCC, and Locked on Zags host Andy Patton was fortunate enough to be joined by the league’s commissioner, Gloria Nevarez, on today’s show!

Gloria and Andy discussed the men’s basketball season and the importance, conference-wide, in having sustainable growth in that area. San Francisco making the tournament is monumental, but more can be done to ensure continued success.

Then, in the second segment, Andy and Gloria discussed BYU’s upcoming departure, and how it impacts multiple sports including, quite notably, women’s basketball. Gloria doesn’t say exactly what is next for the conference, but offers some ideas of how they will handle losing a big program. Gloria also talks about potentially renewing the contract at the Orleans Arena for the WCC Tournament in future seasons.

And finally, Patton and Nevarez end the show talking about the NCAA’s new NIL rules and how they impact student-athletes from multiple sports – and Gloria offers her beliefs on how this will continue to change college sports and the WCC in the future. She ends the show with her bracket predictions – and you’ll have to listen to see who she has winning it all!
